Are You A Voluptuary?

In my experience one of the toughest challenges in being a Virtual Assistant is that I tend to take care of everyone, and may forget about myself. My days are filled with with client projects, working on growing my own business and taking care of my family. As you might imagine that doesn’t leave a lot of time for me to think about relaxation, much less having the occasional massage and pedicure.
However, I’ve discovered that this type of self-care is rapidly moving out of the realm of luxury and becoming a necessity. I learned this lesson from a surprising source. My husband who has lately been urging me to take some time off and pamper myself.
I took his advice and recently scheduled a 2 hour massage (yes 2 hours!) and a pedicure. It was heaven! In addition to feeling rejuvenated in body, I found myself with renewed energy mentally as well.
When I started work the next morning I felt and had a higher level of enthusiasm. I was on fire! It’s amazing what a few hours of self-care can do. It is also important to make this an absolute standard in your business.
I urge all of you to schedule “me” time. Not only will it make you feel better about yourself, you just may find that you are feeling better about your business as well. I realized I loved my massage so much it is now a standing appointment on my calendar (at least for 1 hour)…I am a voluptuary in the making!
Of course with our current economy it is becoming more and more challenging to figure out affordable ways in pampering ourselves. I’d love to hear your creative ideas. Please share your best tips for self-care that doesn’t break the budget.
